Hi! I’m Dr. Jodie Elder.
Here are some things you might like to know about me.
Philosophy
I truly believe we are built to be in connection with other people. We function best when our relationships are strong, and we struggle most when our connections are lost or are filled with tension and conflict. Through my work as a counselor, I strive to help people strengthen their relationships and build solid foundations for full, joyful lives.
In case you want the details, I primarily work from a systemic perspective, which means I focus on you in the context of your relationships. I also use a combination of a psychodynamic approach, which looks into your past, and a cognitive behavioral approach, which identifies and revises core beliefs that are standing in your way.
When we are young, we develop beliefs about ourselves and our world as well as behaviors to help us thrive in our family-of-origin. Once we grow up, some of the things we learned continue to be useful and adaptive, and other lessons need to be examined and revised so we can have healthier perceptions of ourselves and new skills to build healthier relationships. The approaches we’ll use together in counseling dive into your past to help you revise your core beliefs and consciously build the life and relationships you want.
